Big Bill Bronzy is back for the New Year

It’s been a while since I posted on my Tumblr, but it’s a new year, and with that, I’ve made a resolution to get back to sharing and writing about music.

Anyway, and without any attempt of a fluid segue, Big Bill Bronzy aka Big Bill Broonzy aka Big Bill Broomsley was a fantastic blues-man that was born around the turn of the 20th century somewhere in the Mississippi Delta.  He lived in Arkansas until he realized how shitty Arkansas probably was, and then he moved to Chicago in 1920.

Big Bill wrote and recorded a ton of music through the fifties.  Though he seldom went back to the Delta, his music always carried a heavy twang and soulfulness that conjured the deep Southern Countryside.  Plus half of his songs are stories about insane backwoods sharecropper shit.  He doesn’t have a ton of music on the internets, but the above song is pretty awesome, and appropriate while your hangover is possibly still lingering.  Enjoy and have a spectacular 2013.

Happy New Years.

Hey beaches!  I made a new scary ass remix of Bobby “Boris” Pickett’s CULT classic The Monster Mash.  It’s spooky, it’s scary, it’s freaky as can be.  Enjoy!  Also, I’ll be djing at the Blind Barber, come party… if you dare.

Hey buds.  Blind Barber and Details Magazine collaborated on this video interview with graffiti artist Curtis Kulig.  Hear that awesome beat in the background?  Guess who made it?  You can hear it in a few months with raps over it on my upcoming album.

Also check out the Blind Barber x Details x Das Racist video, with one of my other beats on it.

Last week, NSR and I hosted and DJed a party that paid homage to three albums from the 90s (See post directly below).  An abridged recording of the DJ sets made it up onto Life and TImes, but since I have a soundcloud, I figured I’d share the full Celebrity DJ mix inspired by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ classic album Blood Sugar Sex Magik.  Ladies and dudes, I humbly present

Every few weeks, I check the Soundcloud of Philly-based DJ and producer Emynd.  He makes some great edits and remixes that are super useful as a DJ.  This weekend, when I was searching for songs that would make me sound like a better DJ than I actually am when I played them at the club, I came across the Motown Remix Pack Part One.  Emynd and Kenny Meez blended nine classic Motown jams with some dub reggae instrumentals.  The result is great.

My natural inclination was to never tell anyone about this project, so I could have it all to myself and play it at Botanica on Tuesdays, and the four people paying attention to what I was doing would be like “that’s a cool song.  this dude djing is really sweet.”  But I decided to fight that like Harry Potter in that hat (pause), and share it with the millions of people who look at DASH SPEAKS IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET.  Streaming is one of my favorites, their rework of Stevie Wonder’s “Uptight”

Stream the whole album here.

Download the whole album here.

The very good homies and NSR and DJ Friendly Greg just dropped this super funky Disco House Mix.  42 minutes of awesome.  Listen, enjoy, download and share with your friends.

The new Das Racist Album is available today (a day before it’s official release) on Itunes.  The album is awesome.  Definitely download the whole thing, but especially specially track 9, Power featuring Danny Brown and Despot and produced by yours truly.

Yeah You Know…

When I made this remix last month, I wasn’t aware Of the timeliness of this release. But when I realized that today would mark the ten year anniversary of Aaliyah’s untimely death, I was moved to present this humble tribute to one of the most influential singers in contemporary r&b and pop. May we celebrate her life and her legacy and our own lives. Aaliyah Dana Haughton rest in peace.
